In the northernmost reaches of Manitoba lies one of the largest intact watersheds left on the planet. Join us in telling the Government of Manitoba to support plans to protect it.

The Seal River Watershed is the largest intact watershed left on the planet. On a landscape that stretches over 50,000 square kilometres, there are no permanent roads, no dams, no industrial development of any kind. Caribou and polar bears roam beneath massive flocks of birds near a powerful river teeming with beluga whales, seals, and fish.

Dene and Cree people have been caring for these lands for millennia. Our cultures and languages are rooted in our relationship to the caribou and the land. Protecting the watershed means protecting the spirit of our people. That’s why the Seal River Watershed Alliance – comprised of four First Nations – is leading the way in conserving the region. The Seal River Watershed Indigenous Protected Area will ensure that these lands and water – including the wildlife and people that depend on them – can thrive not only now but into the future.

Please join us:

Tell the Premier of Manitoba to support the Seal River Watershed Alliance's efforts to establish an Indigenous Protected Area.

Dear Premier *name*:

We have a remarkable opportunity to protect one of the last intact watersheds left on the entire planet, right here in Manitoba.

Four First Nations are working together to protect the Seal River Watershed as an Indigenous Protected Area. If established, it would be one of the largest protected areas in Canada and ensure these lands, water, and wildlife are protected into the future. It will also create sustainable economic opportunities for communities in Manitoba.

We are not alone: an astounding 83% of Manitobans support the Seal River Watershed Alliance’s efforts to conserve the Seal River Watershed, according to a recent poll. Protecting the watershed will also help Canada reach its goal of conserving 25% of lands and water by 2025.

I urge you to work with the Seal River Watershed Alliance to determine shared responsibilities.

Thank you.
